2. How Did You Enter This Field?
I entered the wedding planning field mainly because many of my friends and some relatives were already involved in the business sector, which gave me a good understanding of how it works. However, I didn’t jump into it right away. I initially worked in the private sector in a role unrelated to the wedding industry. During that time, I realized I wanted to start something of my own. That’s when I launched Brilliant Ceylon Wedding Planning, a business dedicated to creating beautifully planned weddings. Before stepping into the industry, I took the time to study and learn everything I needed to know. For the past five years, I’ve been fully immersed in this field, turning my passion into a profession.
3. What Are the Challenges and Experiences You’ve Faced in the Wedding Planning Industry?
As a wedding planner, every wedding we handle presents its own set of challenges. That’s because no two weddings are the same-each one is shaped by the client’s unique preferences, themes, and cultural elements. Whether it’s a traditional ceremony or a more modern celebration, the concept and expectations always vary, making each wedding a one-of-a-kind experience.
In 2025, a significant number of my clients were based overseas. Most of them arrive in Sri Lanka just two or three weeks before their big day, so I manage all the planning and coordination in their absence. This adds another layer of responsibility, making wedding planning both exciting and demanding.
4. How Many Weddings Have You Planned So Far, and Which One Was the Most Special?
Yes, through Brilliant Ceylon Wedding Planners, we’ve successfully planned over 50 weddings to date. It’s difficult to single out one as the most special because we aim to make each celebration truly unique. My goal is to bring something fresh and distinctive to every wedding, whether it’s a complete concept or even a small, thoughtful detail that makes the day stand out.
5. Why Is a Wedding Planner Important for a Wedding’s Success? How Do You Support Couples Who Entrust Their Wedding Planning to You?
In my opinion, having a wedding planner is essential. Many clients aren’t familiar with how to effectively communicate or negotiate with different vendors, and each vendor interaction can be very different. For a wedding to be truly successful, it requires the full cooperation of all parties involved, from vendors to the couple themselves.
One of the most important aspects is maintaining clear communication with every vendor, especially on behalf of the client. Our goal is to keep the couple stress-free so they can fully enjoy their special day. That’s where we come handling all the coordination to ensure everything runs smoothly and according to plan.
