An interview with Minuri Ranasinghe- The owner of Blesh Colombo

1. A Brief Introduction About You?

I’m Minuri Ranasinghe, a professional wedding planner with over five years of experience in the industry. I work full-time in this role, dedicated to creating beautiful and memorable wedding experiences. Alongside my work in wedding planning, I hold a degree in Human Resources.

2.A Brief Explanation of How You Entered This Field?
I was once employed in the private sector in a completely different field, but I soon realized it wasn’t my true calling. My natural artistic sense and organizational skills drew me toward wedding and event planning. It all began somewhat accidentally, helping friends with small wedding tasks. Those experiences made me feel the excitement and energy that comes with organizing events, and that spark ignited my passion.

With that newfound interest, I stepped into the wedding planning field professionally. At first, I started with small events, gradually earning clients’ trust and moving on to plan larger weddings. My creativity, respect for special occasions, and meticulous attention to detail helped me deliver exceptional service and build strong relationships with my clients.

Now, I receive so much professional love from the couples I work with. Honestly, being able to dedicate myself fully to this work and excel at it is something I truly cherish. The unwavering support from my family has been invaluable- words can’t fully express it. To me, every wedding is a masterpiece, a harmonious blend of beauty, emotion, and meaning. That sense of fulfillment continues to inspire me to create even more memorable and beautiful weddings in the future.

Balancing clients’ expectations with these modern trends is a significant responsibility for wedding planners. In Sri Lanka, weddings are lavish celebrations rooted in rich traditions. The diversity of local customs, religions, and etiquette necessitates that planners possess a comprehensive understanding of cultural nuances. Additionally, family expectations, social status, and religious values play crucial roles in the planning process.

Adding to these demands, the current economic challenges, financial uncertainties, and rising costs make precise budget planning essential. In my experience, the main challenges include:

Planning a wedding within strict budget constraints.
Meeting guest expectations despite economic pressures.
Navigating the complexities of multicultural and multi-religious weddings (Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and Christian weddings each have unique customs and practices).
Coordinating with suppliers and staff, especially in finding reliable vendors.
Managing unexpected issues such as weather changes, vehicle breakdowns, or technical failures.
Despite these challenges, I always strive to deliver outstanding service, transforming my clients’ special days into unforgettable experiences. Over time, I have honed my ability to offer quick, practical solutions to any problems that arise. By blending modern technology with cherished traditions, I create beautiful wedding designs and earn my clients’ trust.

Wedding planning is art-structured, creative, and driven by passion. Staying updated with global trends while honoring Sri Lanka’s deep-rooted traditions allows planners to elevate weddings to new creative heights. It’s a deeply fulfilling career that I cherish every day.

When a couple entrusts me with their dream wedding, I pour my heart and soul into honoring that trust. My team also makes significant sacrifices to ensure that everything goes perfectly. Seeing a couple’s dream wedding come to life brings me immense satisfaction, a feeling that’s truly priceless and fuels my passion for this work. That’s why every wedding I plan is special and meaningful to me.

When clients come to me, I love sharing my ideas, suggesting themes and color schemes that would suit their vision. For couples who have no initial ideas, I provide full guidance and maximum support, ensuring they feel confident and excited about every detail.

My wedding planning services are comprehensive and include:

Designing the wedding and creating a detailed timeline.
Identifying goals based on the couple’s expectations, budget, and traditions.
Decoration and theme design, including lighting, floral arrangements, stage setup, and venue aesthetics.
Connecting them with trusted photographers, videographers, and drone service providers.
Buffet menu selection and comfortable guest seating arrangements.
Music and entertainment planning, from DJs to live bands.
Managing unexpected issues on the wedding day and beyond.
I actively use three social media platforms – Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram – to connect with clients. My business operates under the name Blesh Colombo, and a quick message on any of these platforms will get you a prompt response. You can also reach me by phone at 077 793 3393.

My business is located at No. 241/5, Maya Mawatha, Kiribathgoda.

One of Poruwa.lk’s biggest strengths is privacy, which is essential in matters of matchmaking. For those living abroad or leading busy lives, this platform is a great solution, as they may not have time for traditional matchmaking methods. That’s why I believe Poruwa.lk is a highly useful and reliable service.

I also owe immense thanks to my dedicated team- without them, none of this would be possible. Wedding planning is no small task, and their support and hard work have been invaluable.

Lastly, I want to thank my family for their unwavering support and encouragement in my work. Their love and understanding have made this journey all the more meaningful.
