My name is Nalin Dissanayake, and I own a flower decoration business based in Maharagama. With 10 years of experience in this field, I have been passionately creating floral designs since I started my business in 2015.
2. How did you enter this field?
After completing my A/Ls in the arts stream, I began working at a flower decoration company. The experience I gained there gave me the confidence and knowledge to start my own business in the field. Since I had always aspired to be an entrepreneur from a young age, I combined my skills and passion to establish my own flower decoration business.
What are the challenges and experiences you have faced in the field of flower decorations?
From the very beginning of our business, we faced many challenges. One of the biggest obstacles was the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit soon after we started. The wedding industry experienced a major downturn, with weddings being postponed for two to three years. On top of that, the economic crisis made it difficult for people to afford wedding ceremonies, further disrupting the industry.
Despite these challenges, I have gained 10 years of experience in this field. One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is how to work effectively with clients—understanding their expectations and providing flower decorations that perfectly match the style and theme of their weddings.
3. How many wedding ceremonies have you decorated with flowers so far, and which one stands out as the most special to you?
Since starting our business in 2015, we have decorated for countless wedding ceremonies—though we haven’t kept an exact count. Each wedding holds special meaning for us because, for every couple, a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
On such a significant day, we dedicate ourselves fully to ensuring that everything is perfect. We always aim to provide flower decorations that reflect our client’s style and preferences. Considering all of this, I can’t single out one wedding as more special than another because every wedding we work on is equally significant to me.
4. In your opinion, how much do flower decorations contribute to the beauty of a wedding ceremony?
Flower decorations play a crucial role in shaping the wedding ceremony, from the moment the wedding hall is booked to the wedding photos, the going-away, the bride’s bouquet, and other key elements. We are responsible for creating decorations that capture the beautiful moments of the most special day in someone’s life.
The decorations are carefully designed based on the ideas and preferences of the bride and groom, as well as their parents, ensuring that every detail contributes to making the event truly unforgettable.
How do you support the customers who come to receive your service?
When a customer comes to us, we dedicate a significant amount of time to understanding their ideas. Our first step is to carefully listen to the ideas of both the bride and the groom, as their preferences may sometimes conflict. In such cases, we work hard to bring their ideas together, ensuring that both are satisfied with the flower decorations. This approach allows us to provide the best service to our customers.
5. What makes you stand out among other floral decoration artists?
Our company does not offer fixed packages for our services. Instead, we adapt to each customer’s specific requirements, ensuring that every wedding has a unique floral design. For each client, we aim to create something fresh and distinctive, different from previous weddings.
We also customize every detail based on the client’s preferences, such as specific color themes or unique concepts. All of this is done at a reasonable price, ensuring we meet our client’s expectations while keeping their vision in mind.
6. What advice do you give to couples planning their wedding?
When planning a wedding, the most important thing to focus on is time management. Once the wedding hall is booked, photography and floral decorations should be considered next, as they should complement each other.
Additionally, when planning other details, coordinating with all vendors to maintain a consistent theme throughout the wedding is key. It’s also crucial to assess the capacity of the wedding hall and plan accordingly.
The best advice I can give anyone planning their wedding is to start early. If you’re considering our services, it’s always better to reach out in advance because time is a valuable asset in organizing any event successfully.

For weddings, we make a site visit to understand the venue, and for corporate events, we assess the location before proceeding with the decoration plan.In addition to wedding floral decorations, we also offer decor for parties, full wedding floral setups, and lighting arrangements, all tailored to the client’s specific needs.
9. Do you offer any discounts to your clients?
Yes, if a customer reaches us through Poruwa.lk, we offer a 20% discount on our services. This discount is valid until March 30, 2025. To claim the 20% discount, the customer must bring the Poruwa.lk magazine when visiting us.
