I am Pawanie Liyanage, a Bridal dress designer who proudly introduces herself as a Fashion designer. While I am capable of designing a wide range of outfits, my primary focus is on creating stunning bridal attire. The variety of my work often depends on my busy schedule, but my passion for bridal dress design remains at the forefront of my list.
2. How did you start your career?
I embarked on my journey into this field in 2018, and the steps I took have proven successful thus far. Motivated by my family’s involvement in this profession, my parents are also engaged in it, and I found my inspiration through them. Their influence made it easy for me to choose this career path.
3. What are the challenges and experiences you faced in this field of fashion design?
When I entered this field, the environment was highly competitive, and as a result, I faced numerous challenges at the beginning. This journey was marked by many obstacles, but I was determined to persevere and succeed regardless of the many difficulties. Maintaining self-confidence was essential to survive and thrive in such a situation.
4. How many designs have you completed till now, and what is the most unique clothing design for you?
Among the designs I have created so far, the most special ones are the clothing designs for famous actors and actresses like Madhava Wijesinghe and Sajana Wanigasuriya. Every design I create is special to me because I put my highest effort into each one. However, I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to design clothes for well-known individuals.
5. How much does the design of the bride and groom’s clothes on the wedding day contribute to the beauty of the wedding? Your opinion?
The most prominent part of a wedding ceremony should be the couple getting married on that day, as it is the most important day in their life. Naming it “their day” would be fitting. Therefore, their clothes should be designed to make them look as attractive as possible, which is something I am very concerned about.
6. How do you support your customers in entrusting you with the design of their wedding day dresses?
The first thing I do is understand the style they want. Then I start designing the clothes by presenting my ideas based on their tastes. I begin by sketching according to their needs and incorporating their ideas. After showing them the initial drawings, I proceeded to create the dress. This way, they can get a clear idea of the style I am going to create. I prioritize the wishes of the bride and groom because their wedding day is their dream day, and it should unfold exactly as they envision.
7. What advice would you give to a couple planning to get married?
From the bride’s perspective, her primary concerns should be her makeup and dress. She needs to plan everything meticulously to ensure it fits within her budget. The most crucial part of wedding planning is managing the budget effectively and in a well-mannered way.
