1. A brief introduction about yourself?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m Yohan Aponsu, and my business is Colombo Card Factory. I started my business in 2017. From 2017 to 2024, we have designed wedding invitation cards specially for Sri Lankans living abroad. And the reason for that is they always wanted the best quality in boards and papers, and we always try to provide the best of us from what they expect. So they are always happy to get their wedding invitation cards from us. Compared to other countries, they say it\u2019s easy for them to work with us. However, not only clients who live abroad but also Sri Lankan clients also take our services. Currently, we have designed invitation cards for about 1000 clients. When it comes to weddings, we design wedding cards, cake boxes, wedding accessories, etc.
A brief explanation of how you entered the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have completed a degree in designing. And 2012 was the year I started designing. Likewise, when I came to the wedding field in 2017, I was first working on branding, which included company branding and website designing, which means we mostly worked on UI designing. After enrolling in these things, we have joined this field in 2017. Another thing is that we are running this business with our family members, which means that we are doing this work together with my wife, including my mother and father. We work as a team. In addition to our family members, there are 4 more team members who work in our office, while others work from home. Moreover, I have to mention that all the team members in our business are qualified in crafting, and from our side, we also support them to do their work without any problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What experiences and challenges have you had in this field?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we talk about the challenges, the main challenge we face is that many marriages in Sri Lanka are based on horoscopes, and then they are given on the same timeline. Some couples have to give cards on the auspicious timing according to their horoscopes. Then with the other orders we have, this is a big challenge. We will try our best to give it to them as soon as possible when they need it. Some of these clients come to us after being dissatisfied with cards made by other vendors. These clients are often in a hurry because the previously made cards didn\u2019t meet their expectations, and by the time they come to us, their event dates are fast approaching. We somehow manage the time and do it for them in a very good way. Another challenge for us is to maintain the quality. We use the types of boards imported from abroad for the cards we create in our invitation card business; the existing boards are not widely used. This is because the machines we use are compatible only with imported boards. Considering the quality of the machines, the maintenance cost is very high, and not only that, we keep the quality of the cards the same, and the prices of our cards are affected. We are trying as much as possible to move forward using papers and boards in Sri Lanka. If new products come to Sri Lanka, we can easily face these challenges with papers. Because if that doesn’t happen, we have to face problems like waiting for papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. How many wedding cards have you designed till now and what is the most memorable one for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have created invitation cards for about 1000 clients, and our office has almost all the cards we have made since mid-2017. So the first card we made is very special. It was made for a close relative of our family, the reason being that it was our first invitation card, and it was a card from someone we knew very well. That is the card we remember the most. We have made many types of cards recently, but we remember everything about that first card, the card design, the time it took to make it, and the quality of the paper.
Do you provide services specifically to Sri Lankans living abroad, can you also provide services to Sri Lankans living in Sri Lanka?
The main reason for us to make cards for many people abroad is that our business has gained a lot of attention on social media from people living abroad. The other thing is that many people who live abroad look at the quality of the cards; by that, I am not saying that people in Sri Lanka do not look at it, but they look at everything with fast feedback. We always try to balance everything, including the quality they expect. Another challenge that some companies have faced is the time differences, as the hours in other countries vary. We even discuss with our clients until 2 am in Sri Lanka time. Another reason why those overseas clients join us is that we have dedicated time for them. If we talk about local clients, about 40% of people are from Sri Lanka. Most of the time, many of them are couples and one of them is abroad. They also come here and look at the cards, and they let us create invitation cards. Then, as mentioned before, the reason why many cards are created for foreigners is because of their time and the time they have to manage. Even local clients come to us. However, this percentage is lower compared to other clients.
When planning a wedding day, how much does the wedding card format contribute to making the day beautiful?
The invitation is the first step in a function. When a couple plans their wedding, after they look at things like hotels, they give priority to inviting the guests and preparing the invitations. Many people have looked at their horoscopes and hotel locations, and after doing those things, they come to look into getting the invitation cards made, because it has become a key element. Most of the invitation cards have something called save the date, so they expect to save that date. Considering all those things, it is clear that the wedding invitation card is the first step of a wedding, and it is a very important thing in a wedding function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. How do you support them in entrusting the design of their wedding card to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, when a couple comes to us, now that technology has improved, they come with a picture in mind. The first thing we do is take their idea and add our ideas to it and, at the same time, make a card design and show it to them. That means we make it while they are in the meeting room of our office, and then if they are satisfied with it, we proceed with it. For clients abroad, we make and show them through WhatsApp\/Zoom; the advantage for those in Sri Lanka is that they can come to our office and see the cards we have made before and touch the card materials, and then they can pick a material of their choice and have the design made. Not only that, we often make logos with initials, and we have given those things to our clients free of charge, and it will be the same in the future. We give them that layout, then they can use it in decorations or on the dance floor if they want. Another specialty of ours is that when we do the design and show it, we do not charge anything for it; we do it for free. Then the cost for them goes only to the paper material and the print; from our side, it is a significant support that we provide them. That’s how we assist them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. What advice would you give to a couple planning a wedding?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only advice I can give is that the main thing we need to look at in anything is the cost, and even when planning a wedding, we need to look at the cost a lot, then make a budget for it, and then we do everything within that budget. The only advice we can give is to try to do it because the idea in someone’s mind should be something that can be done in Sri Lanka. From our side, we have tried to accommodate wedding invitation cards that came to us, even if it means spending more to make them. We have tried to make them in the best possible quality. If we don’t have the technology in Sri Lanka, to keep our quality as much as possible, we will make the same quality papers as they ask for, either from Australia or from Germany. Imported, then their cost increases compared to others. Then we cannot offer them at the same price as other invitation cards, because we bring those papers from another country and are relatively more expensive. In those matters, if our clients can adjust to making cards from the papers we currently have, I think it will be very convenient for them beyond the cost.
What is your opinion about Poruwa.lk online matrimony service?
Yes, speaking about it, because now everything happens technologically, I think it is good to be related to technology in these kinds of things because now almost everyone spends a lot of time on social media. My opinion is that this is a very good thing and a very valuable website for anyone who is looking for a life partner. I have seen that there are many other websites like this, but they do not have this kind of function. Also, the interview process by joining the wedding vendors is very good because it is good for both you and us. I think that if we continue to develop the features in this, it can lead to even greater accomplishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, you can contact us through the phone number 076 682 3810, and we also receive appointments through WhatsApp from the same number. You can find our service location on Google Maps; you can easily find it by searching for Colombo Card Factory. Our workplace is in Boralesgamuwa; this area is called Katuwawala. Anyone who wants to get our service can come here and see the invitation cards we have made because it is difficult to check the exact quality of the photos on social media. So you can make an appointment and come to us and get these cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
